It’s an honor and privilege to give this eulogy for my friend.
I’m here like all of us, grieving for a friend I lost to cancer. And yet I am strangely consoled deep within knowing than Heaven has won the battle and angels are rejoicing. I catching myself forgetting that she’s gone. Her messages still in my handphone. Don’t know whether her handphone has been disconnected, but eventually will, that means she won’t be available.... that makes me sad. Kathryn has stolen her way into our hearts and will be there forever.
I knew Kathryn after she got married. Her 1st call to me was for a chat and to let me know she has resigned from her job and now a full time mom. She sounded very happy and wanted to share experiences of being a house mum. Subsequently she called to share a verse God has given her for me. “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength..........................
After the devastating news about her cancer, she went through all medical procedures. After which she recovered, back to normal self, more energy/vitality/zest for life.
We became closer after this. As a family, we went for short trips, had many meals together and shared great fellowship/friendship. We did many things together, but want to share just 3 that really stand out.
a. Our family trip up Boh Plantations. We actually climbed up the high mountain. Kathryn made it without any complain or problem.
b. For my 50th birthday, she surprised me by teaming up with my hubby and coming up with a surprise dinner and a futsal game. She knew I was keen in experiencing what it is like to play futsal. She formed a team and booked the place and we all had great fun.
c. My last visit to her home before she was admitted, was a special one for both of us. We both sang “Indescribable” by Chris Tomlin together from her iPhone. Kathryn sang the whole song through softly though ‘cos she couldn’t take much.
We shared about many things in our conversations; our walk with God, our kids, our husbands. We prayed and worshipped together. Our conversations were not just surface talk, but rich conversations, digging deeper talking heart to heart.
Dear Kathryn, thanks for reminding me that life is so precious and we never know when it will end.
Kathryn desired to visit the Refugee school when she recovered but didn’t make it. But the food that was left over after Sunday’s wake, was a reminder that although she’s gone, she still blessed about 80 kids with a good breakfast in her memory.
Finally, God’s goodness is very evident. I think Kathryn is the most mature, courageous and God-fearing woman I have been blessed to know in this lifetime.
To Mark, Melissa, Pam and Darren... I am so sorry you have to walk this road without her. But one thing I am confident is that you will walk it well, because you know who is holding your hand. There will be highs and lows, I am confident you will see God’s hand in it all.
(Margaret and her husband Alex Raj have been close friends of Kathryn for more than 20 years. Alex has been a classmate of Mark in Standard One in their primary school days. Both Alex and Margaret Raj are worshipping in Glad Tidings Assembly, Klang)
